Malm
A private, offline workout app for Android
Plan your programs, log your training and follow your progress - without an account, a subscription, or a server of ours. Everything you enter stays in a database on your own phone, with Android system backup following your device settings.
Malm is made by Malm Development, a one-person studio in Norway. It runs on Android 8.0 and newer.
Your data, under your control
- No account with us, no login, no server of ours to sync to.
- No analytics, no ads, no trackers, no crash reporting, no payment SDK.
- Your training data lives in a local database on the device, and your progress photos in the app's own private storage, encrypted at rest.
- The app opens a network connection for exactly one thing, and only if you switch it on: a daily backup to your own Google Drive.
- You own your data: export a backup to any folder you choose, and take it with you.
What it does
Programs
Build programs with weeks, days and exercises, or just train freestyle. Plan every set: target sets and reps, per-set rep and weight plans, rest times, warm-up sets, supersets, drop sets and your own set types. Start a whole program or a single day, build a catch-up session when life got in the way, and see how closely you have actually followed the plan. Every program keeps its own version history, with a visual diff and one-tap restore.
Logging a workout
Strength sets with reps and weight, cardio sets with duration, distance and calories, and simple check-off sets for mobility. Your previous session is prefilled as suggestions, with a small arrow showing how each set compares to last time. Rest timer with a live countdown ring and a notification when time is up, music controls without leaving the session, and notes that come back to meet you at the exercise next time.
Exercises and records
An exercise library with 275 built-in exercises across 12 categories, plus your own. Automatic personal records for weight and reps, strength goals measured against your estimated 1RM, and cardio goals for distance, duration and calories. Per exercise: statistics, full history, rep records, a calendar and a progress chart.
History and statistics
A calendar of training days and a searchable history of every session. Totals for workouts, sets, reps and volume with change against the previous period, a consistency heat map, top exercises, latest records, and trends for volume, sets, reps, duration, distance and calories - filtered by period, category or exercise.
Body
Body weight with history, weekly average, chart and BMI. Measurements in metric or imperial, optional cycle and sleep tracking, injuries with dated pain levels, and progress photos behind an optional PIN lock.
Backup to your own Google Drive
Malm can keep a daily backup in a folder called "Malm" in your own Google
Drive. The file is encrypted on the phone with a password only you know before it is uploaded,
so Google - and anyone else holding the file - stores bytes they cannot read. Malm requests
only the drive.file scope, which grants access to files the app itself created and
to nothing else in your Drive. The upload runs on Wi-Fi, older copies are thinned out to seven
daily, four weekly and three monthly, and Settings offers both Disconnect and
Delete copies in Drive.
The feature is off until you turn it on. No data is sent anywhere before you connect an account yourself, and the app has no other network feature.
